menopause and help; older women sitting with her eyes closed in a meadow

It’s coming and it’s unavoidable. Menopause affects women over 45 years old and for some, even earlier. But the onset of menopause doesn’t have to interfere with your roaring sex life. Here’s how hemp-infused products can help ease menopausal symptoms and keep it sexy between the sheets.

What your body goes through
Menopause affects some women quite dramatically and quite rightly so. There’s a massive change in hormonal levels in the body which brings on a wave of unpleasant symptoms that include nausea, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia and irritability resulting from said insomnia. There’s also anxiety and a loss of interest towards sex. And there are a few reasons for that. Women may experience urinary incontinence which makes it embarrassing for them to initiate intimacy. Vaginal dryness and thinning of the vaginal walls make sexual intercourse painful for many which often leads to a loss of libido. Lack of sleep also leads to disinterest in sex, because the body and mind is simply too wiped out to even try and think sensuous thoughts. Remember hormones? The levels of estrogen in menopausal women begin to deplete which means that there is reduced blood flow to the genital areas and therefore reduced sensation.

Taming the beast
A balanced diet, coupled with exercise and meditation, helps ease some of the symptoms. For those who feel nausea, drinking clear liquids and snacking on plain foods might ease the discomfort that nausea usually creates. For intercourse specifically, vaginal exercises like Kegels and lubricants can help ease symptoms. Spending time with friends and family, away from the stresses of work, and having an open and harmonious relationship with one’s partner, can also be beneficial for some couples.

Going through menopause was horrible pre-cannabis. I didn’t want to go on an antidepressant for the anxiety it gave me and I really didn’t want sleeping pills for the sleeplessness; then someone suggested I try CBD oil. It was pre-legalization and I had the same high school experience with weed that most people did so I was reticent to try it. However when you’re anxious and not sleeping you’re willing to try anything so I got some and I’ve never slept better. I now use cannabis oil regularly and love to talk about how much it has helped me on my podcast in the hopes other women experiencing menopause symptoms will find some relief using hemp and cannabis to alleviate some of their menopause symptoms.

Hemp can help
Hemp oil can restore and moisturize delicate skin in the gential regions for those experiencing vaginal dryness, also known as vaginal atrophy. It can increase the blood flow to the genital area and improve blood circulation which then enhances sensation. Hemp is also known for its relaxation-inducing powers which help reduce anxiety associated with sexual performance. Known to help ease inflammation and pain, hemp oil and hemp oil-based products are a must-have for those in the throes of menopause. The fun really doesn’t have to stop!
