How to Celebrate Canada’s First 4/20 Post Legalization

How to Celebrate Canada’s First 4/20 Post Legalization

If you are a cannabis enthusiast, you’re probably revved up for 4/20 celebrations in your city. For the uninitiated, the term “4/20” was a day of protest to call for change to the provisions of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and other legislation that banned cannabis use. Here’s how and where you can celebrate 4/20 this year- the first one in post-legalized Canada.

Where does 4/20 come from?

4/20 - denoting the 20th day of the fourth month of the year (April) - is said to have originated from a group of high schoolers in California who met after class at 4.20 pm to smoke a joint. Story goes that they would whisper “420 Louis” to each other in the hallways, indicating their meeting time and designated smoking spot - near a statue of the French biologist, Louis Pasteur. The term caught on and since then events and rallies are held on April 20th to commemorate Weed Day where cannabis enthusiasts convene for a good time

5 Canadian ways to celebrate this year

  1. Check out an event and celebrate with a crowd
Whether you’re an activist or brand new to the scene, the 420 events taking place in cities across Canada offer a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. The end of prohibition makes these the “must-attend” events of the year.

  1. Host an infused meal for you and your partner
If you are looking for under the radar infused events, check out the High Society Supper Club in the GTA. But if you're willing to go the extra mile, try a DIY infused meal. Be sure to research dosing and source recipes from good sources. You don't want to go overboard and ruin the night.  The cannabis cooking scene is full of amazing talent if you want inspiration! We highly recommend theganjamama for some drool worthy infused fare. Also check out Sousweed and 420foodieclub for delicious recipes and inspiration. For those of you looking for a more healing experience, pick up award-winning author and culinary herbalist Pat Crocker’s new book, Healing Cannabis Edibles or check out patcrocker.com for more healthy herbal recipes.

Hot tip: After your meal, cuddle up with your partner and read up on why cannabis could be the female Viagra.

3. Outdoor fire with friends, cozy blankets and s’mores

We are facing one chilly April, but we all know a campfire and a joint go hand-in-hand and will warm you up in the great outdoors. Relax with friends, blaze and gaze at the stars and if you're in the mood to prep ahead, check out this make-ahead infused s'mores pie!

  1. LOL with friends, then Uber Eats for those munchies
Canadian girls know there is no better way to wash down cannabis, than poutine. Hot, crispy, salty fries, perfect gravy and cheese curds may confuse the rest of the world, but it has been making Canadian stoners happy at diners for decades. Whip up a gooey batch at home with your pals or better yet, Uber Eats your favourite meal. (Don't drive high, friends!)
